Hi all, :-)

I have been a member of this group for a long time, but I have not
posted a lot here. I very much appreciate the courtesy of the
moderator in allowing me to cross post this here. I hope it will be
of benefit.

This post is mainly in response to a question a member just asked on
SmartStim.com about what is a triphase adapter, actually? I posted
there what I believe is a definitive answer, and you will see below
the answer I gave. But first I want to let everyone know what to
expect and what not to expect of me for the indefinite future. :-)

After EES went down I was depressed for awhile. Or you could say I
was in mourning. Actually I still am in mourning, but I "know" that
will pass with time. Anyway I have been hoping that there would come
a time soon when I could start reading all or most of the technical
posts at one of our sites, at least. It has become obvious to me now
that I am not going to be able to do that any time soon. Other
aspects of my life have continued to intensify, recently. That is
not necessarily a bad thing for me at the moment, taking everything
into consideration. But it is the way it is.

What I expect to do for now is to visit all the estim groups of which
I am a member whenever I can. If something grabs my eye and I have
time to say something I think is helpful then I will. Like the one
below.

Private emails: Private emails are very welcome. I love hearing from
you. But. If you are writing to request advice of some sort please
take the following steps: First post your question in a group. Then
send me an email with the URL to your question. I will try to answer
as soon as I can, for whatever my answer may be worth. If I don't
know then when I have time I will say I don't know and make whatever
suggestion I can for finding out. I'm not promising anything about
how quickly I will be able to respond. *L* But if I am going to
take the time to answer then I would like to do it where my time
might benefit more than one person. :-)

Eros_tek: The engineer originally known on line as eros_tek has been
an extremely significant and influential member of our community for
nearly five years now. In a nutshell, eros_tek has made immense and
ongoing contributions to our ability to answer technical questions
clearly and accurately. Over the years there have been a few very
involved and highly technical arguments there between and among
eros_tek and a few other members of our community who have also
appeared to be highly educated and intelligent. I am not qualifed to
judge the outcome of the argument about the relative importance of
high duty cycle versus low duty cycle stim current sources or about
the capacitative effects of the skin/electrode interface. I can only
say that if anyone has caused eros_tek any serious embarrassment so
far I am not aware of it. Traditionally anyone always been welcome
to contribute in our community, and certainly others besides eros_tek
have made huge contributions. Some will recall that I posted a list
of on EES those I remembered and invited additions to my list. That
may be gone now. Anyone could. Many did. Those who did, did.
Those who did not, did not.

In the early days it was WWQuestor, Sybianne_1, ganchome, and I who
decided together that we were going to call on eros_tek if we thought
he could help with technical questions to which we didn't know the
answers. He had appeared friendly and informative in response to our
email questions about the brand new Eros Tek boxes we had bought
ourselves, and at first we didn't know anyone else who even pretended
to his level of expertise on our topic of interest here. :-) I was
the most technically qualified of all the moderators, and I am only a
home hobbyist.

To understand fully and completely how eros_tek came to be important
only requires that you read the archives of the original Yahoo
Electrostimulation/Electrostim Clubs that can be found in text file
compiliations in the files section at
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/electrostim2 , in the documents section
at http://groups.msn.com/electrosexclub , in my briefcase at
http://briefcase.yahoo.com/el_ay_es , and in a couple of other
places. The posts are also in a php forum database at
http://www.eroticelectrostimmag.com . I give Ishtaria great credit
for having done that back in 2001. But the text files are easier to
skim, and they're not that huge.

If you do read those archives you will see that there are familiar
names. I am not going to start mentioning them. But you will see
that some of the people who were helping all of us and
particularly "newcomers to our sport" are still helping all of us
and "newcomers to our sport" now.

So what's the point about eros_tek anyway? The point is, some of us
have written and asked for help from eros_tek in the past. In an
email or PM give the URL to the public question that you want help
with. As far as I know eros_tek is still willing to respond,
although perhaps not with the detail that he has in the past. That
was a lot of work to ask anyone to do over completely. We all know
eros_tek works for a commercial company, the company that makes Eros
Tek boxes. My opinion is that in his case that is something to be
proud of. He is a stimmer himself, since he was a teenager I
believe. I ask you to be polite to someone who has become a friend.

Member eros-tek has stated at various times that "the company," which
I believe includes him and others, does not want him to participate
in forums where there is a lot of stereostim discussion. They feel
that the vast majority of home hobbyists are unqualified to build
safe equipment even with clear directions and that there might be
some liability for Eros Tek in being associated. So let Eros Tek
make its choices there. But there's never any harm in asking for
help with a question. Just be polite, as to any friend.

OK, nuff of that. :-)

love and happy stimming to all,

LAS

------ What is a triphase adapter (adaptor)? Being my response to a
question from a new member at Smartstim.com this morning :-) -------
-------

QUESTION:
> ...or is this just a wire with some funny configuration?

A triphase adapter is just a wire with a funny configuration. The
commercial triphase adapter that I think Sextek.com still sells
(among other dealers now probably), is nicely done, and I use one
that I got as part of a deal with a used ET-312. But I would never
pay $49 for one.

To make the funny wire configuration yourself, start with the two
standard wire pair leads that come with the Eros Tek two channel
boxes. Each has a 3.5 mm two conductor plug. Each has two wires
separated by insulation. One of the two wires in each connects to the
tip of a 3.5mm plug. The other wire in the pair connects to the metal
ring or base of the plug. Without either using a continutity tester
or taking the plug apart to look, you can't tell which wire goes to
the tip and which to the base, inside the little plug.

BUT: Contrary to what you might think, which wire is which does not
matter with Eros Tek products, per Eros Tek on EES. Stay with me
here, the rest is an important qualification to what I just said.

A "triphase adapter" joins one of the wires from one channel and one
of the wires from the second channel together into one plug to be
connected to one electrode. So you end up with three plugs total, not
four, to be connected to three electrodes, not four.

Now follow along here: *L* The standard leads either have a colored
stripe on the insulation on one of the the two wires or two different
colored plugs to connect to electrodes, or both. You don't need to
determine how the plugs are wired inside, but you do need to be
consistent in which wire you are going to join together with a wire
from the other pair into a single plug to connect to just one
electrode.

In other words, use the two striped or the two plains or remove
either the two black plugs or the two red plugs, etc. to connect to
the single plug. If you read this carefully I think you'll see it's
simple. If not I will try again.

Eros Tek is the only manufacturer I know of that has stated
specifically, speaking of the ET-312, that the actual polarity of the
wires is irrelevant to the result, that what is important is that the
two being joined be the same. But the same may also apply to other
boxes with isolated channels. I myself would not hesitate to try the
same thing with a medical TENS unit as long as the box specifications
included the words "isolated channels."

The actual polarity certainly does matter with stereostim and other
boxes such as the PES and Folsom PSG-202 boxes that have an internal
common (or sometimes "ground") connection between one wire from each
of the two "channels" inside the box. There I would only make an
adapter like this using the two wires that I was sure--by looking or
by using a continuity tester--are already common (or connected)
inside the box.

Three electrode configurations are what I have been using mostly for
a long time now. The triphphase effects that Eros Tek advertises in
the ET-312 only come on in the Phase1, Phase2, and Phase3 modes and
maybe in the Audio3 audio input mode. A "triphase adapter"--
commercial or homemade--doesn't matter which--is required to get
that "triphase effect." But the three electrode configuration is
great with all the modes. Voice of experience here. :-)

LAS

P.S. Before anyone asks, no, do NOT join the two wires from both
channels together onto just two electrodes. Eros Tek expressed a bit
of concern with that. I've never tried it myself, and I won't. I'm
afraid of what it might do to my box.
