Also, when I start the recording, my computer suddenly becomes really slow,
with lots of stuttering and slow animations, despite being a fairly
well-rounded computer with core i7 and 6GB ram.

For my earlier video that I made a few months ago, I recorded with a very
old, $200 computer I bought from Ebay, and everything was as smooth as
butter. I'm not sure what's going on.
