Right now, most of the documentation and discussion has been using the
term "app" for end-user-facing programs. It's become a well-know and
-used term in the broader markets (iOS apps, Android apps, Mac apps,
apps for your TV, apps on your game consoles, etc.) and is probably
going to be more-commonly-used, at least from my experience here in the
US, than "Programs" or "Applications."
However, we're still seeing a few places where we have "application" or
"program." Most notably: the button in WingPanel. It's also inconsistent
in a few places across the site or in documentation.
To keep consistency and to prevent us from having three different terms
for the same thing, we should use "app" everywhere.
If there are compelling arguments to the contrary, I'm willing to listen
to them, but I'm pretty set on this at this point. ;)
