Do they know what an application or a program is? No. Someone like that will click as their grandchild explained, no matter what you call it.
I don't know if "app" will be any more successful than "folder" in replacing other terminology, but consistency means the user can see the same word across the system and documentation and know what it means. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of elementaryweb (old), which is subscribed to elementaryweb. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/917467 Title: Consistently use "App" instead of "Application" or "Program" Status in elementary OS: New Status in elementary Website: New Status in WingPanel: New Bug description: Right now, most of the documentation and discussion has been using the term "app" for end-user-facing programs. It's become a well-know and -used term in the broader markets (iOS apps, Android apps, Mac apps, apps for your TV, apps on your game consoles, etc.) and is probably going to be more-commonly-used, at least from my experience here in the US, than "Programs" or "Applications." However, we're still seeing a few places where we have "application" or "program." Most notably: the button in WingPanel. It's also inconsistent in a few places across the site or in documentation. To keep consistency and to prevent us from having three different terms for the same thing, we should use "app" everywhere. If there are compelling arguments to the contrary, I'm willing to listen to them, but I'm pretty set on this at this point. ;) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/elementaryos/+bug/917467/+subscriptions _______________________________________________ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~elementaryweb Post to : [email protected] Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~elementaryweb More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
