Greetings All,

For those interested in the Google Summer of Code WITCH-on-a-Board, I'd like to
share some background information. The WITCH is considered the older ORIGINAL
working computer in the world. It is a fascinating machine in the aspect that
is has all the components of a modern system, but implemented with cold cathode
tubes and relays. Oh, and there is one more unique item: it is a decimal based
computer NOT binary based! An ongoing documentation and educational project
based around the WITCH has been created to coordinate efforts. The project is
known as WITCH-E (http://www.witch-e.org). last summer we had a young student
create a javascript based emulator for the WITCH, however there are some
limitations to what can be done in a browser and it does limit the amount of
hardware experimentation. In a past project a complete replica of the ENIAC was
created in a single chip as a research
project(http://www.seas.upenn.edu/~jan/eniacproj.html). In preparation for
developing this ENIAC hardware, a solid and complete emulator was created in
order to understand the nature of the design. As the WITCH-E project intents to
create replica hardware, the first task is to get a similar emulator created
for the WITCH. The known (public) documentation for the WITCH is available
through the project website.

if you have additional questions, please ask them on this thread so the
responses can be shared!
