Why would one do that when a simple

(setq mac-option-modifier 'alt)

does the job and keeps things perfectly compatible?

Alternative, M-x customize-option mac-option-modifier should work, too, and one can do it with the standard GUI.

As argued elsewhere, using the plist defaults is redundant and makes it harder for us all to debug user's issues. Is it really wise to advise users to set their customizations in a way that causes pain down the road?

PS.: Just as a heads-up, I'm considering taking out the .plist support (and most definitely the Prefs pane as it is) from Aquamacs/Cocoa.
