You probably know that YAMAMOTO Mitsuharu writes another native Mac
Emacs. To build this variant you'd need to check out recent GNU Emacs
from CVS and rename its "emacs" root directory to "emacs-23.1.91-
mac-1.96" – depending on the patch level you want to apply on the base
code. Then get from /ftp:[email protected]:/emacs
(via TRAMP) the archive with additional source and text files. The
root directory of these files corresponds with the archive's name and
is the same to which the "emacs" root directory should be renamed.
Inside the archive is also a "patch-mac" file with patches for the
original CVS distribution. A recent update was using WebKit to display
SVG files. This might be an option for the NS port, too...
For me this kind of Emacs compiles, installs, and launches – but it
needs C-x and ESC typed twice to recognise this input once...
