Incidentally, it might be worthwhile to promote org-read-date to all of Emacs as read-date -- Emacs needs a good date-picker widget alongside things like read-file and org-read-date is the best I've seen. Incidentally I'm planning to update gcal.el (part of emacs-g-client) to use org-read-date if available.
