Indeed. `org-latex-fragment-image-overlays' is a local variable and `revert-buffer' calls `normal-mode', which, in turn, calls `fundamental-mode'. The latter calls `kill-all-local-variables'. Information is lost. I don't think that `org-latex-fragment-image-overlays' is useful, anyway.
