What exactly is in ~/elisp? You say the source files, but are you unpacking the tar file there? If so, adding ~/elisp to your load path is almost certainly wrong: the lisp files are in a subdirectory called "lisp". Use locate-library to find out where you are getting all these: (locate-library "org") (locate-library "remember") Then figure out where you *should* be getting them from.
