Thanks for the patch. We use the same Org mailing list of worg fixes, so
I am CCing emacs-orgmode.

I have updated the patch after rewording and changing the commit message

Subject: [PATCH] dev/org-syntax.org: Clarify item syntax for asterisk bullet

* dev/org-syntax.org (Items): Mention that headline syntax match takes
precedence over item syntax for constructs like
"^* heading, not an item with =*= bullet".
Provide an example.
