Hmm. I think that we followed up further on this during the meetup, and
concluded that the "remote" images are not links, but rather TRAMP file
paths. So, adding https preview handler will be a new feature.
While such feature would make a lot of sense, I cannot say that it
/must/ be implemented. Just nice to have.

A more important thing is fixing the broken previews inside link descriptions.

If you are interested, there is `org-file-contents' that makes use of
`org-resource-download-policy'.
