Yes, I fully understand your concern. I am also not comfortable with this approach. Column view can already modify the buffer, for example by adding whitspaces. This change might encourage similar workarounds elsewhere.
I suggest that we drop this patch for now. I will use a workaround in my configuration. After column view has been refactored, I may revisit the problem and look for a better solution. Best, -- Slawomir Grochowski
