Sorry, I am lost here. Could you show an example?

No. What I had in mind is

* TODO read book [11/21] (auto-updated, counting [10/20] + 1/1 from another 
DONE task
** TODO read 20 pages [10/20] (auto-updated cookie, according to COOKIE_COUNT)
:PROPERTIES:
:COOKIE_COUNT: [10/20]
:END:
** DONE read 1 page
