If all you want to do is using the org-mode superpowers for tables to write latex tables then you should about "Radio tables" in the manual (http://orgmode.org/manual/Radio-tables.html#Radio-tables). Basically, you write a standard org-mode table as a comment in your .tex file and then call a function to send the table as a latex table to a specified place in the same file. It is really nice and you can use all of the spreadsheet operations.
