The version string problem is reproducible. At commit 32f816 (2 commits after the release_7.4 tag) the version number is 7.3 even though it is after the release_7.4 tag. In b0844 (5 commits after the release_7.4 tag) this problem has been fixed which is why Nick doesn't see it.
