It seems more likely that the call to delete-other-windows in org-export is the cause of the problem. Can you try removing it to see what happens. I presume it is there in case you have an Org buffer and /many/ other small buffers, in that case you don't want to pop up the help message in one of the small buffers, because you might not see it all.
