Actually, its a little different. If you hit alt-enter at the end of a line, without typing other text first, like

   - 0:00:02 :: <alt><enter>

It thinks that you're at the beginning of a line and places the date-stamp *above* :

   - 0:03:43 ::
   - 0:00:02 ::
