[O] Unexpected behaviour while adding checkboxes

Hi, Org people.

Given this Org fragment:

with the cursor on the "L", command `C-u C-c C-c' yields:

while I was expecting:

Is there a bug, or do I miss something?

P.S. In case it matters, I'm using a recent pull of Org mode.
