Gah! It *was* operator error. I must have read it through 10 times before sending. Just as the gmail "Undo" window closed, I saw it. I was missing the '.' seperating the bullets. I had '(("+" . "-") ("-" . "+") ("1." . "A.") ("A." "1.") ) when I needed '(("+" . "-") ("-" . "+") ("1." . "A.") ("A." . "1.") ) Sorry for the noise and thanks for the fix! Sheepishly, Brian vdB
