Hi Joe, While it isn't org-mode specific, you might want to take a look at Eric Schulte's "Emacs Starter Kit" configuration (http://eschulte.github.io/emacs24-starter-kit/) -- it includes some org-mode settings, and is an example of a great way of maintaining your emacs configuration.
