I am using GNU Emacs 22.0.50.1 (powerpc-apple-darwin8.3.0), checked
out of CVS on 2005-11-22.

I tried building a self-contained Carbon Emacs installer on an
external Firewire hard disk with a UFS filesystem:

    cd /Volumes/external/emacs/mac
    ./make-package --self-contained

[and things seem to look ok until here:]

make[1]: Nothing to be done for `maybe-blessmail'.
    Creating Emacs.app application
    Creating Package Info file
    Creating pax file
pax: Ustar header field is too small for .
pax: Ustar header field is too small for ./Applications
pax: Ustar header field is too small for ./Applications/Emacs.app
pax: Ustar header field is too small for
    ./Applications/Emacs.app/Contents
pax: Ustar header field is too small for
    ./Applications/Emacs.app/Contents/Resources
pax: Ustar header field is too small for
    ./Applications/Emacs.app/Contents/Resources/info
pax: Ustar header field is too small for
    ./Applications/Emacs.app/Contents/Resources/info/dir

[and a couple of thousand similar lines until the end]

EmacsInstaller.dmg gets created but the resulting Emacs.app won't
open.

If I run make-package in a HFS filesystem then it works fine.

I could not find anything about this anywhere in the Emacs
documentation.
