I'm using Debian Sarge, and I've installed the "ttf-bitstream-vera" package.
I start Emacs with emacs -Q /usr/share/dict/words -fn '-*-Bitstream Vera Sans Mono-Medium-r-*-*-18-*-*-*-*-*-*-*' Then I move point to the bottom of the window with M-- M-r. Now I roll the mouse wheel away from me, to attempt to scroll backwards. As expected, I get an Emacs error: "Beginning of Buffer". However, the window has recentered, with point now in the middle of the window -- in other words, the window has scrolled _forwards_ half a screen. This doesn't happen if I don't pass a font name on the command line.
