The docstring for ediff-regions-linewise says: "Run Ediff on a pair of regions in specified buffers. Regions \(i.e., point and mark\) are assumed to be set in advance except for the second region in the case both regions are from the same buffer. In such a case the user is asked to interactively establish the second region.
I find that, even if I mark regions in both buffers before calling ediff-regions-linewise, I am still asked to interactively set the regions. This seems to be new behaviour which I couldn't find documented in NEWS. Is this intended behaviour (its new to me -- Emacs used to rely on me setting the regions before calling the defun.)? (I tested this by making two files, ~/f1 and ~/f2 and marking a region in each buffer before calling ediff-regions-linewise) Thanks, Stephen In GNU Emacs 22.0.91.1 (i686-pc-linux-gnu, X toolkit) of 2006-12-07 on notch.damtp.cam.ac.uk X server distributor `The XFree86 Project, Inc', version 11.0.40300000 configured using `configure '--prefix=/home/raid/bio/sje30/NOBACKUP/local'' Important settings: value of $LC_ALL: nil value of $LC_COLLATE: nil value of $LC_CTYPE: nil value of $LC_MESSAGES: nil value of $LC_MONETARY: nil value of $LC_NUMERIC: nil value of $LC_TIME: nil value of $LANG: C locale-coding-system: nil default-enable-multibyte-characters: t Major mode: Info Minor modes in effect: tooltip-mode: t tool-bar-mode: t mouse-wheel-mode: t menu-bar-mode: t file-name-shadow-mode: t global-font-lock-mode: t font-lock-mode: t blink-cursor-mode: t unify-8859-on-encoding-mode: t utf-translate-cjk-mode: t auto-compression-mode: t line-number-mode: t Recent input: <return> C-x C-x C-x h C-x C-x C-x o C-x C-x M-x e d i f f SPC r e g i SPC o SPC l SPC <return> n n <return> n n n n n n n <return> n n n n n n n n n n n q y C-x u C-x o C-x 1 q y C-g C-x k <return> C-x b . e <backspace> <backspace> e d i f <tab> <return> C-x 1 <down-mouse-1> <mouse-movement> <mouse-1> C-h i M-x r e p o r t SPC e m a c s SPC b SPC <return> Recent messages: Result: nil [2 times] Result: "f1" Undo!
