Fails for me in the same way on Solaris 10 with just: ./configure --with-gtk --with-xft
Problem seems to be that LIB_XFT on Solaris 10 does NOT include -lX11, despite what it says in src/Makefile.in. `pkg-config --libs xft' returns: -R/usr/openwin/lib -R/usr/sfw/lib -R/usr/openwin/lib:/usr/openwin/sfw/lib -L/usr/openwin/lib -L/usr/sfw/lib -L/usr/openwin/sfw/lib -lXft -lfreetype -lXrender -lfontconfig This patch (reverts Jan 26 change) fixes it for me on Solaris 10, don't know if it breaks anything else.
