It's been so long... and I'm working at a different company now.  But
give me a sec...

Well, one reason it isn't a problem is because there is no longer an
slm method.  I tried tm, and that works.  However, when testing sm, it
hung on me -- here are the *rcp/... * buffers I got after I did C-g:

On a machine where sshd wasn't running:
