Just to say how much I agree with this, this is my default Mail configuration: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/72666/Letters/Screenshots/Screen%20shot%202010-01-24%20at%2020.57.34.png It's a smart folder called "What's up" in italian. It shows only unread mails. To "clean" it I just close and reopen the smart folder (great behavior allowed by Mail).
