Someone setup the Gmane feed for the mail list (thanks!) so I was playing
around with the new version of Panic's Unison. Gorgeous app. Was thinking that
in some ways, this would be an interesting model for what letters could look
like. The other interesting piece is that Unison is about filtering huge lists
of stuff (usenet) which is similar to many power email users sifting through
huge lists of mail. Someone should go down to Portland and make Panic do some
UI mockups. :)

Couple concepts that seem worth exploration:

* Column view is a good mode for navigating large email hierarchies. Could be
arranged around folders, labels, senders, or timeline
* Searching for "labels" or folders like the usenet groups could be useful
(especially for Gmail users)
* Putting folders/labels into the sidebar manually
* Separate search mode
* Toolbar on the bottom for what you are looking for. Unison uses it to
separate files from messages. In email, could be with or without attachments,
priority, flagged, or specific tags (if a tagging model is supported).
* Ignore sender (useful for both spam and for trolls on mailing lists)
* HUD style GetInfo box looks really cool (and appropriate).

I was in favor of tabs but not so sure now. Maybe opening messages into
separate tabs (like NNW does) but not sure about putting mail accounts into
separate tabs.
