Hi,

I was thinking about the UI design of Letters and I've started drawing
some sketches. Since one of the open questions was about windows, I've
started with that part.

Since reading comments on 3-pane layout, I've switched Mulberry to display the list view right across the top of the other two panes (source and message). Please do take a look at Mulberry's menu for choosing display layouts, I think it's a comprehensive set of options for choosing the "primary pane", and orienting it horizontally or vertically. It doesn't offer "left/right" or "top/bottom" options for the primary pane, but does place them sensibly for a left to right reader. Readers of right to left languages might prefer a different placing.

I think that visualizing the wireframe could be very useful in the
discussion, so I've tried making a synthesis of the mailing list
feedbacks and the wiki and I've prepared a PDF.

This first document is quite simple since it gathers just top-level
discussions about windowing.

Notes:
1. The objective is to collect feedback, open questions, do and dont's:
please let me know anything I've missed. 2. I hope this isn't too early.
Let me know if there's a better way in which I could help. 3. I think
that PDF is a good format to work on layouts, but I've never used them in
a completely open community project, so let me know. I can export in
other formats. 4. At some point I think that this process must be
integrated with the wiki, I just don't know at this time which is the
best way to proceed. Let me know. :) 5. The document should be easily
addressable: "document W, page 5: <comment>"
