I may be off-base here, but I think power-users lie anywhere on the
labels<->folders continuum, but maybe Letters.app could support them
all?
On the labels side (which includes me), accounts are setup, folders
tagged as Inbox, Sent, etc, then sliced and diced according to rules
into "Smart" boxes which can also be organized into a hierarchy (with
boxes unioned at the top-level, a la Mail.app). In this configuration,
the folder panel could be completely virtual, without "Inbox"es or
"Sent"s, and laid-out from scratch by the user.
On the folders side, rules move/copy new messages into to other
folders already on the server, and follow a strict representation of
what exists on the server side.
Somewhere in the middle you have a layout similar to Mail.app, but
still configurable.
