my mother uses Verizon as her DSL supplier
Last night she was having problems sending mail, so I was trying to
trouble shoot this for her, over the phone.
Pertinate info:
We both are running OS X.2.2.
She uses verizon (as previously stated)
I use Telocity (now DirectTV) for my DSL
So I opened 'Mail', and proceeded to setup an email account as it
supposed to be setup for her DSL service. After setting everything up -
I found -
**** I can send and receive email on her account ****
remember - I am NOT using verizon for DSL, I am NOT on their network, nor
did I dial in to their network. So much for SMTP authentication.........
I suggest that anyone this list who is using verizon for their ISP call
and complain - this is a serious security problem, in addition to the
problems that SMTP authentication causes for Emailer.
