I would like to streamline my emailer installation as so:

I first installed the program in 1997; since then, i did a clean install
of the OS (8.6) and in the process simply copied the Emailer folder to a
Zip disk, then loaded it all back onto the clean 8.6 machine. This
resulted, I believe, in a slightly slow, inefficient arrangement of the
files. I have rebuilt the database a few times, which helps, but I
imagine the program is not as well installed as possible. Now that I am
having to work from home, I need to make this program as useful and
efficient as possible.

So, I am wondering if it would be possible to keep a copy of my current
mail and index yet start a new instance of Emailer afresh--and still have
access to the old mail if I need it. I seem to remember talk on this list
of ways for switching between databases/indices. Through preferences?

 Any advice welcome. And thanks.
