OK Udo Huth and Chris, I'm back again to discuss:

>I WAS using Emailer (2.0v3) on an iBook 300 with system 9.0.4. On that
>screen new message windows are quite large (screen resolution 800X600),
>whereas incoming message window, which open not QUITE flush on the left
>(like their outgoing counterparts)

To clarify, on my iBook 300 I have the same experience as both of you
describe with screens of 800X600. On the iBook 800 I also notice that
the incoming message reaches down just to my control strip (without cover
any of it) which is at the very bottom of my screen. However the WIDTH
of the incoming message window stretches across 73% of the screen (with
my font preference set to size 14) while the outgoing message windows
stretch across only 60% of the screen. If I reduce the font size to an
uncomfortable size 12 (remember, this is a 1024x768 res screen and I'm
over 40!) both the incoming and outgoing message windows shrink
proportionally.

Another caveat in the Incoming message window is that the text does NOT
extend all the way horizontally (does not fill the window horizontally)
as does an outgoing message window. Whereas, since the Outgoing message
window is very narrow, when I copy text over from an incoming message
(using "Paste as Quotation" from the Edit pull down menu,... well
actually using the corresponding keyboard short cut!) each line breaks up
onto two lines, causing the quote to have "carroted" blue lines
alternating with non-carroted black lines. (Did I lose anybody on that
description?)

To answer Chris's idea that I try tossing my prefs, I remind you that, at
your recommendation, when I set up my new iBook I merely coping all of
Emailer over from the iBook 300; hence, my prefs are the same, except for
the increase in font size from 12 to 14. Anyway, I hid my prefs file,
quit and restart with default prefs, and, with the exception that the
print was a microscopic size 9, the window problem was the same: larger
incoming message window, smaller outgoing message window. However, alas,
I see there IS a stacking effect! While the outgoing messge is flush on
the left screen, the incoming places itself a tad to the right, thereby
allowing me to go back and forth.

Conclusion. Even though the main problem of the anomoly we have been
discussing never in fact was a problem, as I just now discover the window
stacking effect, the breaking up of quoted text still requires the labor
intensive :) need to resize the Outgoing message windows, while the
Incoming message windows remain taking up extra screen realestate with
their 20% of the right side of the window textless.

Does anybody with either OS9.2.2 or a different OS but with a 1024x768
screen notice this effect?

We will survive greater problems... thanks,
Gabriel
