I wonder why they say/think that?! They certainly weren't taking baby 
boomers into account when they came up with such nonsense.

As discussed previously on this list, some of us wear glasses with 
progressive lenses and have to use the portion of the lens that is near 
the bottom to put close to mid-range objects into focus.

I use the glasses to clearly see notes on my lap, a tv monitor 3 feet 
away and action taking place 20 feet away almost simultaneously at work 
and have therefore developed severe neck problems because the  monitor is 
inevitably (and uncontrollably)above my eyeline.

At home, I use reading glasses with my computer so that I can keep my 
neck straight!

Looking down at a monitor sounds like a great idea. :-)
