I just thought I should report the resolution of this problem because it
might help others.

In an amazing but fortuitous turn of events, my "NETWORK STREAM" error
messages when using my cable addresses, SEEM TO have disappeared. (Crossing fingers
and toes...)

When I first had cable installed MANY MOONS AGO, the "contractor" came at
night, as they often do to accommodate working people. He had to dig the cable
box on the street out from under 3 feet of snow and it took him a while to hook
me up. He admitted he knew nothing about the computer so he left me alone to
get myself online, which I did.

I always have had a "one of the fastest connections in the country" according
to the broadband measurement website, so I never complained about speed, or
expected speed to be an issue but now suspect it may have been partly to blame
for my network stream errors, aside from the previous custom settings
authentication connection issue. The reason this was discovered was thanks to a
technician who knew what he was doing, as opposed to the one who originally did the
install.

What happened? Two nights ago, the cable suddenly went out at 11 pm and never
came back resulting in my calling them repeatedly. Comcast is taking over
Attbi and they admitted to making changes outside at the boxes and told me to
hang on and I would be back up soon. After checking with the neighbors, I
realized I was the ONLY one out, so they scheduled a visit for me today from this
technician. After being assured I did not touch any of my tv connections,
filters, that stuff, and he verified that my modem was not fried, he went out and
voila, turned me back on. He had no clue why I was turned off, and I didn't care,
only that it did prove I was not the cause of it suddenly going off.
Then he also rewired the splitter for a more efficient connection as he
claimed that the original one was not done in such a way as to keep me on at the
highest possible speed -- that it was being diluted way too much. So, as I said,
it was always fast, even routed between one or MORE computers, and I never
had any issue with speed, but he said he made the change because I was on the
cusp of a good connection. Who'da thunk it since it worked fine for so many
years like that until they made some other unknown change out in the street.

The first thing I did was check a cable email address with emailer, which of
course was full since I've been using dialup and had not bothered to get
cable mail as their webmail is very slow.

The connection feels about 30% faster than before, and lo and behold, if I am
not seeing things, I have NO NETWORK STREAM error on send or get! It still
only registers at 202 or so, but it is very snappy when fetching mail.

As Chris may have suspected, aside from the authentication scheme having been
changed, this could have been a speed issue where the connections were not
timing properly, letting the mail work, but giving me that error.
Not only am I thrilled that I am now picking up ALL mail error free, but that
I have proven it's not my BELOVED CLARIS EMAILER!!!

(Doin' the happy DANCE!)
