Some time ago I think someone on this list said their computer froze while Emailer was checking for mail, and I said that I had the same problem. I found out what was causing it for me, so I thought I'd pass it along in case someone else might be helped.
I have a cable connection, and use Net Barrier as a firewall. I have Emailer set to check my mail every ten minutes, and it would be frustrating to be working in some other application, or even typing an email, and have things come to a halt for several seconds. I had activated the Net Barrier mail filters in a fruitless attempt to slow down the spam assualt, and as soon as I disabled the filters I went back to very rapid mail checks and no more freezing. After I found this out, it seemed like a "duh" moment that something trying to check my mail to see if it met criteria for filtering might just slow things down while it checked, but I wasn't smart enough to think of it earlier.
