I have recently encountered a problem opening newer mpeg files with Quicktime and cannot find a list like this one that isn't supposed to be just for developers - can anyone direct me to one for laymen that might solve my problem (or at least explain it)?
Here it is: I have Quicktime 6.02 running on 9.2.2. A friend with a pc recently emailed me a couple of attachments: one was appended mpeg 2 and the other mpg 1. I could not open either although I have never had a problem in the past with files appended mpeg or mpg (without numbers). Quicktime infomed me it was "because a software component needed by the movie could not be found", so I checked to see if I needed an update and decided I might as well download the new Quicktime MPEG 2 playback component for a whopping $19.99 ($30. Canadian). I am still getting the same error message (!!) and still cannot open either of these files despite the sender saying he has no problem with them.
