Just to be accurate, it is not "on the fly". You have to enter password, and it takes a while to transition, depending on the computer, Monitor display settings, etc. But you do not have to log out and quit all apps. Don't think of it like "multifinder" or anything. But it is cool that all the user's apps keep running. Of course, at present, these apps are not aware of what is going on, so it can create some problems with copy protected applications, driver software, etc. Labelling is the key issue ...
