About to follow up. I am not a big admirer of the dock and, like Tannis, use the superior DragThing in preference (http://www.dragthing.com/) so minimising to the dock doesnt do it for me. Now if I could just turn the dock of altogther . . . I had assumed that under Classic the OS9 Control Panels had been entirely overruled by OSX System Preferences. So, yet another benefit from this valuable list. Be interesting to see if there is any other 'lost' OS9 functionality that can be recovered in this way.
