Pace earlier posts, Graham, it is likely that there was no OS9 disk 
supplied, although Classic will be there, poised to activate OS9 if you 
have access to an earlier install disk with it on - not usually hard to 
come by. OS9.2 upgraded (via Apple's website) to 9.2.2 seems to be the 
recommended version. Then she need not wrestle with Mail. Firing up OS9 
under Classic really is no big deal and uses minimal system resources 
when an app like CE is not in active use.
