Hi Chris,

No, according to system profiler the modems are on the USB Bus.
So, a two wire interface between modem and motherboard so no 
way to have hardware handshaking/flow control or whatever.
Do you know of any good Apple technical discussion groups?
Maybe one focussed on networking?
I tried a post on Apple web site but there wasn't any response.
