it isn't the buldging inbox, but yes, it is the every growing mail database. Emailer just needs its memory usuage bumped up a bit. Quit Emailer, find it in the finder, do Get Info, then increase the memory allocation by a bit. Try taking it to 5000 K or maybe even higher if you wish.
