I just found out this thread now. Sorry for being late Julian Allason a écrit de l'adresse <mailto: "Julian Allason" [EMAIL PROTECTED]> le 10/12/05 22:45 (GMT+01:00):
>Thanks for this suggestion, Jay. > >>With RCDefaultApp, you can set Emailer as your default email client. > >Unfortunately under OS10.4.3 I am finding it still defaults to Mail >despite setting it to Emailer. I have no idea how I had originally managed to do that, but mailto links have always opened Emailer for me. For a long time, I have been using Emailer under OS9 starting from the OS9 partition, then about one year ago, I structured the computer for booting from the OS10 partition while using the OS9 system under classic and all files still residing on the OS9 partition. They are still there. In my OS10 partition, I have located an alias of the OS9 application folder, which includes Claris Emailer in the OS10 Application folder Under System Preference:Internet:Mail, I have two choices, which are Emailer and Mail I have found no such thing as mail client preferences in Mail FWIW, I have tried, under OS 10, in Under System Preference:Internet:Mail the following: 1 - Changed from Claris Emailer to SMTP Auth Login (the Emailer version tuned by Chris for SMTP authentication). Easy do do. I Shut down Emailer, clicked on a mailto link in Safari, and it opened Claris Emailer (not SMTP Auth Login) 2 - Changed from SMTP Auth Login to Mail. It worked 3 - Changed from Mail to Entourage (had never started it so I had to select it). It worked 4 - Changed from Entourage to Claris Emailer. It worked (yes, it came back to Emailer) I have noted while rummaging under OS9 preferences that changing my internet preferences from Safari (it was that) to IE (because I have one IE under OS9 and one IE under OS10) was preserved under OS10 (it means my default application was now IE of OS 10 instead of Safari and I had to adjust the internet preferences of OS 10 back to Safari 5 - So I restarted under OS 9 (not classic, a real restart under the genuine OS 9.2.2) 6 - On the control Panel Internet, I selected SMTP Auth Login instead of emailer. Tried a link under iCab (still perfect), it opened SMTP Auth Login 7 - I then restarted under OS 10 and verified that SMTP Auth Login was still checked in System Preferences: it was not, had disappeared together with Entourage, but Emailer was still there and selected 8 - Claris Emailer started on start-up (Classic starts automatically because of the box I ticked in Classic preferences, I unchecked that box) in spite of the fact the Claris Emailer box is not ticked in the list of startup items in OS10 System preferences). I don't know why 9 - I shut down Emailer and cliked on a link in Safari. It opened (still) Claris Emailer 10 - I tried the same with iCab (shut down Emailer, and click on a mailto link. It still opens Claris Emailer instead of SMTP Auth Login 11 - I restarted under OS9 and reselected Emailer as my mail application in Internet Preferences 12 - I restarted under OS10 Where Classic was no longer required to start on start-up, but where SMTP Auth Login was required to start on start up on the Opening Emements (where start-up applications are selected) 13 - Bingo: both Emailer and SMTP Auth wanted to start simultaneously under classic (activated, I believe, because I had selected SMTP Auth login as start-up application). A memo appeared stating that I was not authorised to try to start two Emailer applicatins at the same time and would need to delete preferences if only one was starting. SMTP Auth won and started. I Shut it down and deselected in on the start-up apps. I did not do anything to the Preference file 14 - iCab opened again claris Emailer when I clicked on a link This is all. I do not understand what goes either right or wrong. In any event Emailer is alawys selected as my preferred mail app. I can change it for a OS10 mail client if I want, and come back to emailer whenever I want, but I cannot select any other OS9 mail client. Also, Emailer starts automatically whenever Classic is set to start automatically on start-up, even if the Claris Emailer check box in the start-up application panel is unchecked Maybe someone will succeed to understand this story (iBook, dual boot OS 10.2.8 on the first partition and OS 9.2.2 on the second, emailer 2.0v3 and SMTP Auth Login, both at the same level in Claris Emailer folder, at the same level as the Preferences file) -- Jean-Pierre <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> ___________________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe send a mail message with a SUBJECT line of "unsubscribe" to <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> or <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
