OS 9 won't run native on the Intel machines. In fact, no Mac shipped for a while has been able to dual boot into OS 9 native. So that option is right out. Next option is to run OS 9 in Classic in OS X. >I presume the obstacle is that the new machines now run Intel >code, and while Rosetta will translate PPC code into that, the OS9 >emulator/interpreter that we know as Classic is excluded. That is correct. Apple felt it wasn't in their best interest to spend the time and money to get Classic to run via Rosetta. I'm actually curious what would happen if someone did try to install Classic on the Intel Macs (using presumably, a bundled installer of 10.4 that has the optional Classic installer). My guess is, it won't work. So that leaves one final option right now... Emulation. >Pending the arrival of the longed-for Classic translator I cant think of >any other way of running Emailer on one of the new machines.... Sheepshaver claims it will Emulate a PPC mac on an Intel Mac. Q also is an Emulator that can do PPC, but last I looked at Q, the Universal build did not yet support PPC emulation, just x86 emulation (letting you run Windows). If you can get the PPC Mac emulated (or even a 68k mac for that matter) and can get Ethernet support in said emulator, then it should be possible to run Emailer (since Emailer 2.x will run on as old as System 6, it would be possible to use an old 68k emulator like vMac... which actually does run on the Intel iMac under OS 10.4, but doesn't support Ethernet, so there is no way to tie Emailer to the outside world) One of these days, I'm going to try out Sheepshaver and see how well it works (if at all). I've just been busy recently doing other things (ok, I've been busy with my obsession over watching ER reruns in order from the beginning... I just finished Season 7 last night, I'm watching on average 3 episodes per night... and getting nothing else in my dreary life accomplished because of it). I did actually look at my Intel iMac last night while watching ER, and thought about playing with Sheepshaver... but then I got distracted putting together a web page showing off my nephew's broken ankle. Maybe tonight I'll finally see if Sheepshaver works. -chris <http://www.mythtech.net> ___________________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe send a mail message with a SUBJECT line of "unsubscribe" to <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> or <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
