When upgrading to OSX I lost the OS9 hack that disconnected the Caps Lock key which, bad typist that I am, kept getting hit inadvertently. I have now discovered that the OSX solution was right under my nose:
System Prefs->Keyboard and Mouse->Keyboard->Modifier Keys button then select the No Action option for the Caps Lock key.
