Hi All: I suspect the following problem is being experienced by CE users other than I so hope you can give me some advice.
I am often sent, these days, attached media files showing either no extension or .text. They are not referrred to as encoded but clearly they are and it is time-consuming to open them. (Which, however, I would like to do ....) They look something like the example below when opened into a text editor - starting with some html formatting code and then alot of garbledgook. I wonder if anyone knows of a more efficient way of opening these things than changing the app in Get Info? For some reason, even though this file had a .text extension, it is clearly a .wmv file as is apparent when I dragged it into my Browser. But Get Info initially offers up either text editors or Quicktime - so I have to go to Other and find my Windows Media Browser software - which isn't even a Recommended Application! In this case, even that sometimes doesn't work - this file would not play in wmv! Is there something the sender can do to make things work better for others? (It is usually my brother who is sending from is PC.) Thanks!
