Bea, go up to the Apple Menu in the upper left corner of the
screen, click on the Apple, drag down to "About This Mac",
and select it. Does the resulting window say, at the top,
Mac OS 9 or Mac OS X?

There was a control strip in OS9 but never a dock.
If 9 is not running when to srat Emailer it will open automatically.
Same with any other 9 application.
