Bea - I know you can't pay for shareware, but there is a utility app called Dashboard Kickstart (payment by donation only) which you put in your Start Up folder and it keeps the Dashboard up and running for easy immediate access. Another great feature of OSX is Expose which I use ALOT! Go to OSX System Preferences and open the Dashboard/Expose window. You will be confronted with a monitor screen with pull down menus at each of its corners. You can choose to have the Dashboard activated or "exposed" by a mere swish of your mouse (cursor) by choosing it in the menu closest to your preferred corner. Then, when you want to see your widgets just swoosh you cursor into that corner and they will come to the forefront. You can also choose to have other things happen in other corners and I use the All Windows option all day as well, to go from one window or app to another - it "Eposes"' all open windows and you just click on the one you want and that window and its app comes forward. You can also choose to use keyboard shortcuts instead.
