Andrew,
Chapter-I:
As far as error 5000 is concerned: it means "Access Denied".
- are you running the rebuild on a version of your mail database that is
on CD or within a DISKCOPY image that is readonly ?
- check the emailer files with Apple-I (Get INFO), and check if you are
the owner or have all rights, as well as rights to create new files.
- check if you have sufficient disk space left : the rebuild needs twice
the size of you emailer mail folder and who knows.. some spare space.
- I know of very few (none ..) occasions where an advanced rebuild doesnt
work. It usually works to my knowledge
Chapter II:
Your TiBook hanging on 10.4
My impression is that not so much your emailer is hanging; but instead..
your Classic box is hanging alltogether.
Try (with a duplicate copy of your Mac OS 9 system folder) to run without
any non Apple extensions and with empty prefs folder.
Then try running emailer. It should run smooth.
Next you can find out which are the OS9 extensions or prefs that cause
the hang.
Also, make sure you have one of the most recent emailers 2.0v3
If emailer crash-quits but is not hanging, then clean out the folder
called "Temp Incoming"; there will be some messages in there that you
should set aside.
