Reference was recently made to the impending of appearance of Microsoft's new .docX format in our in-boxes following the release of Word 2007. This does format does not seem to be readable by existing versions of Word let alone other apps.
It may be that Apple will in due course produce a conversion routine for OSX if Microsoft fails to, but perhaps not for OS9. However a utility that will convert .doc files to .docX has already been published by the icWord people which is both inexpensive and available for both OSX and OS9.
